How to Search for Public Criminal Records in New Jersey
There are many reasons to check into someone's background for criminal activity. While these checks are routinely done for potential employees, adoptive parents or renters, this type of search is also relevant for potential volunteers or even significant others. In New Jersey, you can request your own record, or one for someone that you would be hiring or working with in a volunteer or service capacity.

Tips & Warnings
Once the request is received, it should take approximately 10 business days for a response.
You may also request a criminal background check on yourself, or proof that there is not one, by contacting the FBI.
If using an international money order or check, it must be drawn on a U.S. bank.
There are also numerous websites that provide a search for you for a fee. Although some claim to be free, you will probably be asked to "subscribe" for a monthly or one-time fee to receive the information.
