How to Clear Land & Grind Stumps
Often when you buy a new lot of land, you have to clear off all of the trees and bushes to develop the parcel. This can be a very difficult project. If you want to do it yourself, it will take a great deal of hard work and sweat to complete. Even with the proper equipment, though, this is not a project that should be undertaken by those with limited outdoor work experience or who are out of shape. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Cut down the trees and bushes. You should use an industrial-strength chainsaw, an ax or a combination of both of these tools. Make sure that you wear safety glasses and that you're careful to remove as much of the tree as possible.
-
2
Drag the trees and bushes away from the field once they've been cut down. You could cut them into smaller pieces and then haul them away by hand, or you could hook a chain up to a truck and pull them across the ground. Use whichever method works best.

3
Prepare the stump. Cut as much of the stump away with a chainsaw, and make sure that impediments such as hard soil or rocks have been dug out of the way. Dig out around the stump to reveal the first 4 inches or so.

4
Wheel the stump grinder into place. The grinding wheel should be a few inches above the stump when you start the motor. Start the grinding wheel spinning and then slowly lower it until it's grinding against the stump. Using the levers, slowly push the grinding wheel back and forth, as well as down, until the stump is roughly 4 inches below the soil line. Repeat this process with all of the stumps, and then bury them.

Tips & Warnings
Many times lumber companies will clear your land for you if you have timber that's considered valuable. In this case, not only can you get your land cleared for free, but you may be able to make a profit off of the trees.
Make sure that you're safe at all times. Flying chips of wood or flung stones can injure you, and you should try to avoid these incidents.
