How to Wear Fur Clips on a Dress

Pins and clips were popular accessories in the 1930s and '40s

Fur clips were a very popular fashion trend of the 1930s and '40s. Pins, clips and broaches were widely used as elegant accessories, as a way to embellish an outfit and draw focus to a certain part of it. Fur clips are unique in that the back prongs that clasp the clip are very long, enabling them to push through thick fur coats and fasten securely. These can easily be put on dresses to add a touch of style, much as they did many decades ago.

Instructions

1. Choose a modern shirt dress, which often has a collar, or a sweater dress with a drooping collar. Clips and pins were traditionally worn on the dress collar. Dresses of that era often had prominent collars and women would further accent this by adding a sparking clip.

2. Pin the clip to the center of a neckline. This will add focus to the bust of the dress and will have a sexy and sensual appeal.

3. Pin the clip to a plain belt to accent it. Pin it to the center of the belt or on the hip.

4. Accent an asymmetrical dress strap by adding a fur clip. Place it on the seam, where the strap meets the body of the dress, for an elegant touch.

5. Clip it to a ribbon and wear it around your neck. This transforms the clip into part broach, part necklace, adding to the overall ensemble.
