How to Apply For a Federal Pell Grant With FAFSA Online

Think you may qualify for a Pell Grant? Applying for a federally funded Pell Grant has never been easier. A simple application online is all that is required. Pell Grants are based on income level and need. If you qualify, a Pell Grant can provide you with extra money to pay for college tuition. Here's how to apply for a Federal Pell Grant via FAFSA online.

Instructions

1. Gather all of your personal and family financial and identification documentation. You will need your social security number (SSN), W2's (both parents and students), copy of drivers license, and possibly bank statements. If you are not currently a citizen or resident of the US you will need a copy of your student visa and alien registration card or some form of state identification. You will also need to know your "school code number" available at the student administration office of your college.

2. Fill out a Free Application for Federal Student Aid at the FAFSA website. The application can be downloaded to your desktop to work on at your leisure.

3. Apply for your FAFSA student Personal Identification Number. This is what you will use to sign your application before you submit it. PIN numbers are available on the website as well.

4. Once you have filled out your application to the best of your ability, sign the application with your PIN and submit it via the website. You will be informed within a few weeks of your status and information on where to access your funds if you should qualify.
