How to Use Your Droid Eris As an Internet Device for Your Laptop or PC-tethering

The Droid Eris is an Android-based smartphone released in 2009. The phone does not support tethering out of the box and additional software is needed to enable this feature. Users may also need to sign up for a tethering plan with their mobile carriers. While some carriers offer tethering as a free service, others such as Verizon Wireless and AT&T charge for tethering, and using this feature without paying the additional fee could result in steep data access fees.

Things You'll Need

• USB Cable
• PDAnet for Android software

Instructions

1. Download PDAnet for Android to your computer from the Junefabrics.com website.

2. Press the "Menu" button on the Droid Eris. Go to "Settings," then "Applications" and "Development." Check the box for "USB Debugging."

3. Install PDAnet on your computer and follow the on-screen prompts.

4. Connect the Droid Eris to the computer with a USB cable.

5. Right-click on the "PDAnet" icon in the system tray of the taskbar. Select "Connect Internet." The computer will now be tethered to the phone.

Tips & Warnings

• Do not use tethering without paying for a tethering plan, if your carrier requires you to do so, as you could violate your terms of service and may incur steep data usage fees.
