Do it Yourself: Video Game CD Repair

Repair your damaged video game CD.

Almost all video games now come on a CD, DVD or a disk-shaped device. If your game disk is damaged, it can disrupt game play by skipping, freezing or even crashing your gaming system. If your video game is damaged, you will need to repair the game or else you may not be able to play the game again without these disruptions.

Things You'll Need

• Window cleaner
• Smooth, clean cloth
• CD repair spinner

Instructions

1. Inspect the bottom of the video game CD. Blow off any hair that is stuck. If you see any thick scratches or if the CD is cracked, you cannot fix these issues. However, you can repair dirt and minor scratches on your own.

2. Spray window cleaner onto a soft, clean cloth and rub the CD from the inside to the outside. Do not circulate your cleaning cloth as this forces dirt and other debris into the small holes of the CD.

3. Dry off the video game CD and insert it back into the video game system to test the game play.

4. Place the video game CD into a CD repair spinner. You can purchase such a device at most electronic stores (and even large grocery stores). The CD spinner either works through a motor or a hand crank. The kit essentially sands the CD while it spins, gently removing the layer around the scratch. This buffers out the scratch, leaving your CD scratch free.
