ActiveX controls are pieces of programming code developed for Windows based platforms that allow your Internet Explorer browser view certain Web page content, such as Flash animation. An ActiveX control is downloaded to your browser and then integrated with the operating system. The programming pieces of a control are used to view the content by lending the code to the program(s) running on the web page, thus reducing the overall size and enhancing the browser. However, ActiveX downloads are also known as a pathway for the trojan and other virus infections.

Open the Internet Explorer browser and click on "Tools" menu option.

Select "Internet Options" and then click the "Security" tab.

Click the Internet icon and then the "Custom level" button.

Scroll down the list of available options and check the "Prompt" radio button under "Download signed ActiveX controls."

Scroll down the list and check the "Enable" radio button under "Run ActiveX controls and plugins." Click on "OK" and then on "OK" again to close the "Internet Options" window.
