How to Start a Business in Saskatchewan
Entrepreneurs looking to start a business in Saskatchewan must comply with the regulations promulgated by the Corporations Branch of Saskatchewan Justice. This generally means that a person looking to conduct business in Saskatchewan must file various forms and apply for permits. The types of permits vary depending on the type of business. Upon filing the forms and paying the filing fees, the new business operator is ready to begin operations.

1
Draft a business plan. Your business plan is like an instruction manual for your business idea: it sets forth every necessary detail such as how you intend to fund the business and how you plan on marketing the business. Templates are available on the Internet. Use the Small Business Administration's links below to help you draft this document.

2
Determine the type of business you intend to operate in Saskatchewan. Choose from sole proprietorships (where you are the sole owner), partnerships (if you are going into business with someone else) and corporations. The type of business will dictate which forms you must file.

3
File the required provincial forms. Sole proprietorships and partnerships must file the Application for Registration (Form A) and the Request for Name Search and Reservation (Form G). Corporations must file four forms: the Articles of Incorporation, Notice of Registered Office, Notice of Directors and Request for Name Search and Registration. These forms are available from Saskatchewan's Corporations Division. They can also be downloaded. Check the Resources section below for forms.

4
Check with your local municipality as to any permits you need. File the required permits. Some municipalities in Saskatchewan require various permits such as gas permits (for new gas installations or modifications to existing gas installations), import permits (for when you are importing goods to sell in your business) and general business licenses (which allow you to operate a business within the town limits). Visit www.canadabusiness.ca to search for required permits and forms by city and business type.

5
Acquire funding to lease or purchase space to run your business and to launch your marketing campaign. Hire employees and open up shop.
