How Do I Inform My Address Book of a New Email Address?
There are several reasons you may need to change your email address. You may choose to switch your Internet Service Provider (ISP), you may want to make your address more professional, or perhaps you want to use a free webmail service such as Yahoo, Hotmail or Gmail. Depending upon the importance of your emails, you can choose to delete your old emails or simply forward them to your new address. Informing your address book of your new email address information before you close your old account will allow you to keep in touch with your contacts while keeping your information current.

Set up your new email account while you still have access to your old account. This will make it easier for you to transfer important emails and inform your contacts of your email address change.

Set up a new email account with the service provider of your choice. Note that if you are working with an ISP email address, you have limited access to your email account. The Web Developer Notes blog notes that if you are at a computer that is not supported by the ISP that provides your email service, you may not be able to access your account.

Log into your previous email address and compose an email to send to all the contacts in your address book that you would like to have your new email information. If you want all of your contacts to have your new address information, simply include your entire address book. Be sure to note any important dates for when you will stop using your old email address. Many webmail servers have a notification option noted in the address book where you can have an automated email sent to your contacts to inform them of your new address.

There are also email transfer services that will migrate all of your emails from your old account to your new address. However, most services charge a fee for these services.
Like an out of office email notification, you can have an automatic response set up to your incoming emails to your old account informing the sender of your address change.
Keep your old email address accessible for two weeks after you have sent your address change notification to give your contacts time to read your notification.
Every email goes through a series of servers where sensitive information, such as your Social Security number and credit-card number could be compromised. Do not email this sensitive information to your new address or to another person to ensure that the information will stay safe.
