How to Troubleshoot the Cruise Control on a 1991 Honda Accord

The cruise control on your 1991 Honda Accord automatically adjusts the throttle position when you press on the "set" button on the cruise control stalk on the left side of the steering wheel. However, if you are having problems with your cruise control, you may need to replace the switch assembly and module. These components are rather expensive, so before you replace anything, you should do a simple troubleshooting procedure to verify that the cruise control is malfunctioning.

Instructions

1. Start the Accord's engine.

2. Verify that the small tab on the cruise control stalk is set to the "on" position. If it is not, then the cruise control will not work.

3. Pull down on your Accord's fuse panel cover under the steering column with your hands.

4. Locate the fuse for the cruise control using the diagram on the underside of the fuse panel cover.

5. Pull the fuse for the cruise control and check the metal strip inside the fuse. If it is burned or broken, then replace the fuse with a new fuse of the same amperage.

6. Verify that your cruise control is working normally. If it is not, then you will need to replace the cruise control switch and module.
