How to Care for Terrazzo Countertop
Terrazzo counter tops are made from marble or granite, glass or other materials mixed with concrete or epoxy. Some terrazzo counter tops contain recycled materials and are therefore marketed as environmentally friendly.
Terrazzo counter tops are durable and can be very attractive, but they do require some care to keep them clean and free of stains. The general rule of thumb is to care for and clean these as you would solid marble or granite counter tops.

1
Choose the correct cleaning product for your counter top. Any Ph-neutral cleaner, or cleaner created for marble, granite or terrazzo, will do. You'll find these at most stores that sell cleaning products. In addition, use soft sponges, soft cloths or other soft material to avoid scratching or scuffing the terrazzo counter top.

2
Clean spills immediately, especially if the substance is an acidic food (tomato sauce, for example) or drink, such as juice. Not only do these substances usually cause staining due to artificial or natural food dyes, but the acids in them can damage the counter top.
Integritystone.com recommends blotting with paper towels to soak up the spills on natural stone, and you can do this with terrazzo as well. Soak up the liquid and then clean the counter with a ph-neutral cleaner. -

3
Maintain your counter top by cleaning it after each use. If you have been away and haven't used it for a while, a damp cloth is sufficient. For regular cleaning, however, just use water, ph-neutral cleaner and a damp sponge. Follow with a towel to dry these counters.

4
Use trivets and coasters under cookware and drinking glasses to protect terrazzo counters from heat, scuffing (from metal pots) and from acidic liquids (such as juice).
-
5
Apply a terrazzo counter sealer according to the counter top manufacturer's instructions. How often you will need to apply sealer depends on your use of the counter top--if you do a lot in your kitchen and don't clean the counter top regularly, you may need to re-seal terrazzo more frequently. Sealing prevents stains and wear on the counter top.

Tips & Warnings
The University of Florida Extension advises against using cleaners containing ammonia or baking soda. Also avoid using all-purpose cleaners (these usually contain alkalies) or acids (including vinegar) on terrazzo.
