Reuse your ink cartridges to save resources.

Many people who refill inkjet cartridges for their Deskjet 3740 printers do so for one of two reasons. The first reason is money. You can refill an inkjet cartridge for a Deskjet 3740 for a fraction of the cost of buying a new cartridge. The second reason is concern for the environment. By refilling the cartridges for your Deskjet 3740, you throw out fewer cartridges, resulting in less waste that ends up in landfills.

Instructions

    • 1

Buy the Deskjet 3740 inkjet cartridge refill kit. Find the kit for a Deskjet 3740 printer cartridge online at both Printer Filling Station and Ink Supply (linked in the Resources section).

    • 2

Cover the area where you plan to refill the cartridge. The ink used to refill a Deskjet 3740 easily stains most surfaces.

    • 3

Remove the label from the top of the used Deskjet 3740 inkjet cartridge that you want to refill. Under the label, you uncover five predrilled holes on the cartridge.

    • 4

Fill the syringe from the refill kit with ink by placing the tip of the syringe in the bottle of ink and pulling back on the plunger. Approximately 15cc of ink should be enough to refill the cartridge.

    • 5

Place the tip of the syringe into any of the exposed holes on the Deskjet 3740 inkjet cartridge and depress the plunger. Press slowly to prevent air pockets from entering the cartridge and ink from spilling out the other holes.

    • 6

Continue to fill the cartridge until ink appears around the tip of the plunger. This indicates that the cartridge is completely full.

    • 7

Place the label back on the cartridge if it is still sticky. Since the cartridge goes into the Deskjet 3740 printer with the holes facing up, it won't hurt anything if you cannot put the label back on.

Tips & Warnings

  • Refill the inkjet cartridge of your Deskjet 3740 printer as soon as the ink starts to show signs of running low, such as streaks or light text when printing. If a cartridge with low ink is allowed to sit for too long, the ink dries on the sides of the cartridge and you cannot use it again.
