How to Remove the Hose in Soaker Hose Compression Fittings
Compression fittings are designed to create a watertight seal around lengths of hose, usually for irrigation purposes. This allows users to trim or modify their hoses to customize for their needs. As with all outdoor implements, though, maintenance is always necessary. Sometimes, when it is necessary to take apart an irrigation system, you may have to undo that watertight seal at the compression fitting. Doing so is easy, but take some precautions to ensure that the seal is once again watertight upon reinstallation. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Remove any materials that have been placed on top of the hose area you are working on. Many irrigation systems are buried beneath the ground, and you'll want to keep interior of the hose and compression fitting clear of debris.
-
2
Cut off the water source. Depending on the irrigation system type, you may need to remove the end caps to allow water to flush out of the system and water pressure to diminish.

3
Grasp the compression fitting firmly with one hand. Use your other hand to firmly grip the hose as close to the actual fitting as possible. Slowly torque the hose, making sure to use as much control as possible so that the motion is not jerky.

4
Pour hot water over the union if the hose does not come loose with a firm and slow twist. Use a steady flow for about a minute so that the heat is able to thoroughly affect the fitting, then repeat step 3.

Tips & Warnings
Use pliers or other gripping tools only when steps 3 and 4 have failed. In this instance, you'll need to trim the hose back an inch or two for reinstallation to ensure a watertight fit.
