      To check the front doorbell button is to remove it. This will expose the wires which are low voltage are safe to touch (though if you have a heart pacemaker let someone else do it).

      Take the two exposed wires and touch the ends together. If the doorbell rings than you know that is the switch. Just go to the hardware or lighting store and buy the replacement button and connect it up.

      If the doorbell did not ring after the wire test you need to test further. First thing to do is use a voltage tester to see where the problem lies. This tester will tell you if the problem is a transformer or the wiring.

      Once you have identified the problem you may want to get yourself an electrician or if not replace the wiring or transformer yourself providing you have checked all the safety measures including turning the power off!
