How to Remove Windows XP Setup Mode
If you upgraded your PC to Windows XP, you may run into an issue whereby your PC remains in the XP setup mode. Typically, this issue is caused by a change in the "boot.ini" system file, a file that enables your operating system to boot successfully. Fortunately, this issue can be easily resolved by modifying your system "boot.ini" file. The "boot.ini" file is an important component in PCs running on operating systems such as Windows 2000, XP and Server 2003.
Instructions

1
Click "Start," select "My Computer" and then double-click on the disk drive where Windows XP is installed. Typically, operating systems are installed in the C-drive.
-
2
Select "Tools" from the drive window, choose "Folder Options" and then click on the "View" tab. Choose the "Show hidden files and folders" option, uncheck the "Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)" check box and then select "OK."

3
Open the "boot.ini" file in Notepad by double-clicking on the file in "My Computer." Scroll through the contents of the Notepad file to find the "[operating systems]" section and remove the lines referring to "Windows XP Setup."
-
4
Go to the "default=" line in the same section and make sure the line matches your installation location (the C drive).
-
5
Apply your changes by clicking on "File," choosing "Save" and then restarting your PC. You have successfully removed your PC from the Windows XP Setup mode.
