But such a collection of bows can get expensive. They're simple to make at home, cost far less than pre-made bows, and are equally adorable. These instructions are for making a basic medium-size bow, but when you are comfortable with this, you can experiment with different sizes and designs.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut the 7/8-inch wide ribbon to 29 inches long.

    • 2

Fold the ribbon in thirds, making sure that one end is on top. Stick a pin in the center of the ribbon to hold it in place.

    • 3

Separate the layers until you see loops emerge. Adjust the loops until the bow is the shape you want it.

    • 4

Thread the needle and stitch the layers together in the center. You may have to repeat the same stitches several times to make sure it's secure.

    • 5

Pull the thread tight and wrap it around the center of the bow four times. Push the needle down into the center of the bow once more and tie a double knot at the bottom. Cut off the remaining thread.

    • 6

Cut a 5-inch piece of the 3/8-inch wide ribbon and tie a knot in the center of it.

    • 7

Use the hot glue gun to glue the knot to the top of the bow to cover the stitches. Pull the ends of the knot to the back of the bow.

    • 8

Cut another piece of the 3/8-inch wide ribbon and use the hot glue gun to line the clip with it.

    • 9

Glue the back of the bow to the top of the clip. Wrap the ends of the center knot around the top of the clip and glue them underneath. Trim off any excess ribbon.

    • 10

Adjust the shape of the bow as necessary.

Tips & Warnings

  • Be sure to use small dabs of glue so that it won't be visible.
