How to Restore a File That Was Replaced and Saved Over

Mistakes are commonplace when it comes to computers, and one of the biggest computer-related blunders is accidentally overwriting a file. Although you might assume that there is no chance of recovering the original, you might be able to salvage a copy of the overwritten file by using the Volume Shadow Copy tools in your operating system.

      Click on the "Start" menu and select "Search."

      Choose the option to search for "All Files and Folders."

      Type in the name of the overwritten file and press the "Search" button.

      Right-click on the file and select the "Properties" option.

      Select the "Previous Versions" tab and select the version of the file which you wish to restore from the menu onscreen.
