How to Set up a Samsung 61 as a Computer Monitor

In addition to enjoying high-quality television program on your Samsung 61-inch HDTV, you can also hook it up to your computer and use it as a secondary monitor. This can allow you to view video files on your computer on the television, which can save you time that would normally be spent burning these files to disc or putting them on a flash drive. To make this connection possible, you just need to use the right cable.

Instructions

1. Plug a standard VGA monitor cable into the blue VGA "in" plug on your Samsung HDTV. This can be any cable you would use to connect a monitor to your computer. Use the screws on both sides of the plastic blue plug to secure the cable firmly into place on the device.

2. Plug the other end of your VGA cable into the blue VGA "out" plug on the back of your computer's case. Use the screws on both sides of the plastic blue plug to secure the cable firmly into place on the device.

3. Turn on your television set.

4. Press "Input" on the remote control until the label on screen reads "VGA."

5. Press "Menu" on your Samsung HDTV's remote control. Select "Video" and press "Enter." Change the value in the "Video Source" category to reflect that you'll be using a computer as opposed to a device like a DVD or Blu-Ray player. This will be called "PC Mode." Press "Menu" again to exit the menu.

6. Turn on your computer. You will now be using your Samsung HDTV as a computer monitor.
