How to Install Active Directory Users for Windows XP

In Microsoft Windows-based operating systems such as Windows 7, Vista and XP users have the ability to install new user accounts into the active directory. (The active directory is the hard disk drive directory that holds the operating system and boot files.) In Windows XP, this process is very simple. Administrative users have the ability to install (either) administrative user accounts or limited user accounts (limited accounts cannot change some system settings and must have administrative permission to install most files).

Instructions

    • 1

Open the User Account Control Panel. To do this, click on Start > Control Panel, then click on "User Accounts."

    • 2

Click on the "Create a new account" button. The User Account creation wizard will now open up onscreen.

    • 3

Type a name for the user in the designated field, then click "Next."

    • 4

Pick an account type. Your choices will be "Computer administrator" (full privileges) and "Limited" (limited privileges, can only modify files he/she created).

    • 5

Click "Create Account." Your new user will now be installed to the active directory of your Windows XP installation and is accessible for use immediately.
