How Do You Put Together a Display Board for a Forensic Science Project?
Completing your experiment for your forensic science project seems like the hardest part of competing in a science fair. Believe it or not, there's still plenty of work ahead of you. Putting together a display board for your forensic science project takes an artistic eye and a logical mind. The judges will look carefully at your display board when judging your project, so it is important to put your time and effort into making it shine.
Things You'll Need
- Paper
- Pencil
- Scissors
- Tri-fold board
- Computer with word processor
- Markers (optional, depending on your word processor)
- Glue
- Construction paper

1
List all of the components of your forensic science project that you think should be listed on your display. Choose from the following: Title, Question, Problem, Background Research, Hypothesis, Abstract, Materials, Procedure, Constant and Variables, Data, Results, Conclusion, Discussion, Illustration, Photograph of Experiment.
-
2
Lay three sheets of paper next to each other to represent the three parts of the tri-fold board.
-
-
3
Map out where the main parts of your display will go on your tri-fold board, using a pencil and the three sheets of paper. Keep in mind that the middle section of the tri-fold board is larger than the two end sections.
-
4
Type up each component and print it out, using a font that is large enough to read easily. Print out the title of each component in a large font, and the title of the entire forensic science project in an even larger font. All of the titles should preferably be in color.
-
5
Cut most of the white area off the outer edges of these papers and place them in the appropriate places on the tri-fold board. (The board should lay flat on the table as you organize your display.)
-
6
Reorganize any sections as needed, and revise your original sketch to reflect those changes.
-
7
Place each section on a piece of construction paper that is slightly larger than the printed section. The construction paper should form a thin frame around the white computer paper. Make sure that the colors match each other, or use all the same color for a more uniform look. The colors should also match the titles, as well as any other colored items on your display (e.g., charts, illustrations). Make sure that each section is aligned and fits well in its location.
-
8
Apply glue to the back of each white paper with a gluestick, and press it against its construction paper backing. (Glue sticks work best to avoid wrinkling.) Then apply glue to the back of the backing and press it against the display board in the appropriate location.

Tips & Warnings
Order the components from left to right whenever possible. The only exception is if one section of the project is especially eye-catching (e.g., a table, an illustration). In that case, place that section in the middle area of the tri-fold board.
Double-check all text for typos or other mistakes before gluing them to the board.
Do not glue any materials to the tri-fold board until you are sure that all of the sections are in the correct place and spaced correctly. You may want to use a ruler to make sure that the sections are aligned well.
