How to Reset the Check Engine Light on 2000 Prerunner
The 2000 Toyota Tacoma Prerunner is identical in most respects to the 4Runner, with the difference being that the Prerunner offered a rear differential locker on their TRD Off-Road package. Like the 4Runner, the Prerunner uses a check engine light to warn the driver that maintenance or some other mechanical service is required. Once the service has been performed, you need to know how to reset the engine light.

1
Locate the OBD port to the left of the fuse panel in the driver's side foot well. This is the onboard diagnostic port, commonly called the OBD port, that will give you access to the Prerunner's trouble codes that are causing the check engine light to come on.
-
2
Plug the OBD tool into the OBD port. The OBD tool is the "on board diagnostic" tool. This tool will automatically retrieve the codes and reset the check engine light.

3
Turn the ignition key to the "II" position and wait for the OBD tool to retrieve the codes stored on the Prerunner's computer and reset the check engine light.
