How to Remove Refrigerator and Freezer Doors

Learn how to remove fridge and freezer doors.

You may need to remove you fridge and/or freezer door for many reasons. Maybe you are moving and you need to get the refrigerator through the doorway of your new house. Perhaps you need to make repairs to your freezer. Whatever the case, fridge and freezer doors are easily removable. There's no need to call a professional to do the job. Anyone with basic handyman skills can accomplish this task.

Instructions

1. Locate the side of the fridge or freezer door that doesn't have the door handle. You will see a number of hinges that keep the door attached to the fridge.

2. Shut the refrigerator door if it wasn't closed already. Remove the screws from the hinges with a screwdriver, ratcheting wrench or nut driver, depending on the type of screws your door has. Put the screws in a safe spot.

3. Pull out the hinge pin. If it is stuck, use a putty knife to move the hinge up so that you can grab it easily.

4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 until you have removed all the hinges. Put the hinges in the same safe spot as the screws.

5. Hold onto both sides of the refrigerator or freezer door, and lift the door up and out. The door should come off easily.
