Becoming an insurance agent in Georgia is an excellent career choice. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the employment of insurance agents will increase by 12 percent over the next 18 months. Before becoming an insurance agent in Georgia, you must earn the proper credentials.

Instructions

      Complete the pre-licensing course. Georgia requires that you complete either a 30- or 40-hour course, depending on the area of of insurance you wish to cover as an agent in Georgia. The common choices are life, property and accident insurance.

      Pass your exam. Georgia law requires you to earn a passing score on the insurance examination. Conveniently, there are six examination centers throughout the state. To schedule an examination, call PearsonVUE at (800) 274-0488.

      Complete the Georgia Resident Insurance License Application, also known as form GID-103. The information requested on this form is basic personal data, such as name, address, age, etc. Additionally, the GID-103 requests criminal history and the sponsoring agent if applicable.

      Submit electronic fingerprints via an approved vendor. Fingerprints are required only for new Georgia residents.

Tips & Warnings

  • Per the Georgia Office of Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner, upon issuance of the agent license, the licensee must obtain a certificate of authority from each insurer that they will represent.
