How to Write House Warming Invitations
Standardized house warming invitations can be purchased, but its more fun and personal to design and write your own. If you love being crafty, then making personalized invitations is for you. There are a number of bits of information that must be included but the theme, decorative design and creative wording you put on your invitations will make your invited guests feel extra welcome at your new or newly-remodeled home.

1
Use a computer program that allows customization to design the invitation. Add a picture of your new home or the new pool. Print it out and follow the folding directions. Or, if you prefer, fold the card stock in half or in quarters and decorate with paints, markers, stickers, etc., for a personal, one-of-a-kind invitation. Greeting card envelopes are available at any office supply store.

2
Write a personal, creative rhyme or verse in your own words. Or write down a unique family quote that you or a family member came up with. Use something particular to your family that is connected with the theme of house and home. If you can't come up with anything on your own, then search for interesting quotes, poems, sayings or verses about home. Change them using your own words to personalize them.

3
Include, on the front of the invitation or inside, the reason for the party. For example, you recently moved, installed a new in-ground pool or added a new addition to the existing house.
-
4
Make it clear who is hosting the party and who is being invited. State whether it'll be just friends, friends and family, just co-workers or any combination of these. It will put people at ease to know who else will be at the celebration.
-
5
Whether the party is celebrating a move to a new house or where you've lived for years, include a small printed map and with the address and phone number clearly printed on it. That way, if people get lost along the way, they can call on their cell phone for further directions.
-
6
Date and time should be very clear. Include ending time too, along with any special instructions, such as "kids are invited" or "bring your bathing suit."
-
7
Let folks know whether alcohol will be provided or if it's BYOB--bring your own bottle. Tell them what food and drinks to expect--if you're just serving cake, they will want to eat lunch beforehand.
-
8
Include the RSVP information. RSVP is from the French phrase, Répondez s'il vous plaît," which literally means "Respond, if it pleases you." RSVP information will include your phone number or your email address, and the deadline for replying. RSVP cards designed to be mailed back are too formal for this type of party.

Tips & Warnings
A house warming party is a celebration, so gifts should not be expected. But if your family and friends do bring gifts, remember to send a hand-written "Thank You" soon after the party.
For the half-fold card, buy 5-3/4 by 8-3/4 inch envelopes; quarter-fold cards will fit in 4-3/8 by 5-3/4 inch envelopes.
House warming invitations should be sent out four to six weeks in advance. Mailing them out less than three weeks in advance is cutting it too close.
