Download the transcription software on your PC.

Digital phone transcription software allows you to transcribe data files such as MP3s, WAV files and other audio extensions from your laptop or PC. This software can be used both with and without foot pedals. The manual option is controlled by your PC keyboard and the normal mode is controlled by foot petals. You can transcribe any size audio file and open the files right from the database rather than having to find the file and drag it over.

Instructions

  1. Installing the Software

    • 1

Download your audio transcription software. Make sure that this software is compatible with your Windows operating system or MacBook.

    • 2

Purchase a high-quality headset. Some software recommends that you use a noise- canceling headset for your dictation. Noise-canceling headsets will help block out background sounds.

    • 3

Open the dictation software by double-clicking the shortcut saved to your desktop. If your download is not saved to the desktop, it may be located in your Start menu under "All Programs", where you'll see the name of your software.

    • 4

Click "File" within the dictation software; then click "Open".

    • 5

Select the audio file you wish to transfer over by clicking the correct folder that it's housed in.

    • 6

Click "Open" to select this file. The file you have selected should appear within the software's main screen.

How to Use The Transcription Software

    • 7

Click the play symbol from the remote located in the software window to start the file.

    • 8

Rewind the audio clip. Press the rewind symbol and hold it for as far back as you need to go into the audio file. If you click the symbol while you are still in play mode, you will be able to hear the file as it goes backwards. You can use the timer to find the exact place in the audio file that you want to rewind to.

    • 9

Click fast forward to bring the file forward. If you're only going a few seconds ahead, click fast forward while the file is still playing. If not, click stop twice and then fast forward.

    • 10

Pause the file by clicking the stop button once. Click stop twice to completely stop the program.
