How to Create a Bootable Copy of a Hard Drive Using Drive Image
Creating and maintaining a computer data back up is a very important task for ensuring data integrity. Every computer user should understand, at least on a basic level, the process of creating drive images in order to protect important personal and operational computer data. The process of creating a back up disk image has been greatly simplified due to the release of software such as Drive Image. This software allows users to completely mirror a hard drive with just a few mouse clicks.
Instructions
-
-
1
Launch Drive Image from its installed location.
-
2
Click the "Create Image" button located under the "Action" menu in the main program window.
-
-
3
Left click the drive(s) you wish to back up from the list provided and press the "Next" button.
-
4
Select a destination where the drive copy will be created from the navigation window. This should ideally be a separate hard drive with no data on it.
-
5
Set the imaging mode to "Append changes differentially to the existing image." This will allow for later changes to simply be added to the image instead of entire new images being created at a later date.
-
6
Set a password if desired for the current image and click the "Next" button. This prevents use of the drive copy by unauthorized users.
-
7
Click the "Start" button to begin the imaging process. This process may take several minutes to several hours depending on the size of the disk being copied and the speed of the hard drives it is being copied between. A dialog box will appear informing you when the process has been successfully completed.
