How to Make an Activity Calendar for Kids
It's no surprise that children often need a little help keeping track of their responsibilities and appointments. Making a kid-friendly calendar can serve as a family reference guide for important activities. These calendars can be customized as desired to fit your family's needs. Different materials can be used to complete your calendar, ranging in cost and level of skill needed to complete.
Things You'll Need

1
Decide on a theme for your activity calendar. It can be geared toward documenting one particular activity or several. You can use this activity, or any other chosen theme, to decorate your calendar.
-
2
Choose a surface to create your calendar on. You can easily print out calendar grids each month, or draw one on a large sheet of poster board. Chalkboards and dry erase boards are a little more expensive, but they can be reused from month to month. Corkboard is another option that will allow you to pin notes in place.

3
Design markers to indicate individual activities. For example, you can make a marker in the shape of a musical note to indicate piano lessons, a ballet slipper for dance lessons or a stethoscope for a doctor appointment. These can be made with construction paper and attached to the board with magnets or pins depending on the surface. If making an activity calendar for several children, consider using pictures of each child to designate appointments.

4
Offer incentives or a way to document progress on the calendar. For example, the activity calendar could indicate chores required of your child. For every fifth chore she successfully completes as indicated on the chart, she could receive a special treat. This will cause her to stay on point and monitor her achievements.

5
Personalize the board with stickers, pictures or any other decorative pieces that fit the theme of the board. If you involve your children in this process, they will be more likely to pay attention to what is noted on the calendar.

6
Provide easy access to writing utensils. You and your children will be more likely to use your calendar if it is easy to update. Keep pencils, dry erase markers, Post-it notes and any other materials in a cup attached to the board or located nearby.
