How to Draw a Map of Your Trip for Your Kids
Going on a family trip can be an enjoyable and memorable experience for both you and your kids. One way to keep those memories alive is to draw a customized map of the trip. If you went on a trip by yourself, you can help your kids understand what you did by telling them stories about the trip and drawing a simple map. You don't need to be a professional cartographer to create a treasured map--you just need a piece of paper, some colored pencils and your memories.
Things You'll Need
- Map of the area in which you took your trip
- Blank sheet of paper
- Colored pencils

1
Open the map of the area in which you took your trip and lay the blank sheet of paper next to it. Using the map as a general guide, draw the approximate path you took during your trip on the blank sheet of paper with one of the colored pencils.
-
2
Make an "X" over the line you drew in Step 1 for each interesting thing you did or saw at the approximate location of the object or event. For example, let's say you drove from your home in San Francisco to your parents' house in Denver. On the way, you stopped in Yosemite National Park and Capitol Reef National Park. Between the two National Parks, you stopped at a rest stop and saw a large snake. Draw an X on the line from San Francisco to Denver where each of the following points would be: San Francisco, Yosemite National Park, Capitol Reef National Park, the rest stop and Denver.

3
Label each "X" on your map with the corresponding name or a sentence that describes what happened or what you saw there.
-
4
Use your colored pencils to draw a relevant landmark near each "X". For example, you might draw the Golden Gate Bridge near the "X" for San Francisco, some trees and mountains for Yosemite and a large snake for the rest stop.
