How to Change the Oil on a John Deere LA 110
John Deere recommends that you change the oil filter every time you change the oil on its riding lawnmowers. The first oil and filter change for the LA 110 is recommended after eight hours of operation, and after that they should be changed every 50 hours (or less under dusty conditions). Start your John Deere LA 110 and run it for a few minutes to warm up the motor oil. Shut it down and open the hood. Place an oil pan under the oil drain plug.

Unscrew the oil drain plug with your fingers or a wrench in a counterclockwise direction. The plug is located straight down and slightly to the right of the oil dipstick. Drain the dirty oil into the oil pan. Screw off the dipstick cap in a counterclockwise direction. Screw off the old oil filter with an oil filter wrench. The oil filter is located on the other side of the engine, directly opposite of the oil drain plug.

With your finger, apply oil to the rubber on the new oil filter. Screw the new filter on clockwise, turning only a partial turn after you begin to feel any resistance. Replace the oil drain plug by screwing it on clockwise. Pour 1 1/2 quarts of new oil into the oil fill tube. Replace the dipstick cap and close the hood.

Tips & Warnings
For the LA 110, John Deere recommends using oils with viscosity 5W-30 when the outside temperature is -20 to 85 degrees F, 10W-30 when it's -5 to 100 degrees F, and 10W-40 when it's -5 to 120 degrees F.
