Directions to Crochet a Hat

Instructions

1. Chain five. Insert the hook into the first chain and create a slip stitch. This will form a ring.

2. Chain three. The chain three will count as the first double crochet stitch. Double crochet 15 times in the ring, for a total of 16 double crochet stitches. Slip stitch in the top of the chain three.

3. Chain three. Double crochet in the base of the chain three. Double crochet twice in each of the stitches in the round for a total of 32 double crochet stitches. Slip stitch in the top of the chain three.

4. Chain three. Double crochet twice in the next stitch. Repeat the pattern of one double crochet in the next stitch and two double crochet in the next, all the way around the round for a total of 48 double crochet stitches. Slip stitch in the top of the chain three.

5. Chain three. Double crochet in the base of the chain three. Double crochet once in the next two stitches. Repeat the pattern of one double crochet in the next two stitches and two double crochet in the next, all the way around the round for a total of 64 double crochet stitches. Slip stitch in the top of the chain three.

6. Chain three. Double crochet once in each stitch of the round. Slip stitch in the top of the chain three. Repeat for the next round.

7. Chain three. Double crochet in the next stitch. Double crochet decrease in the next two stitches. Repeat the pattern of one double crochet stitch in the next stitch and a double crochet decrease in the next two stitches, all the way around the round for a total of 48 double crochet stitches. Slip stitch in the top of the chain three.

8. Chain three. Double crochet once in each stitch of the round. Slip stitch in the top of the chain three.

9. Slip stitch in each stitch of the round. Fasten off the yarn and weave in the end.
