How to Change a File Extension Name
Changing the file extension of a file can cause compatibility problems, as some programs may not be able to read the new file format. If you were to change a file called from a .doc to a .txt format, Word would still be able to open the file, even though the format would look different. Simpler text editors, however, such as Microsoft Notepad would not understand the new file format. If that same file was changed to a .bmp format, graphic programs would be unsuccessful at opening it. Be sure that by changing a file's format you don't create any compatibility issues with any programs that might attempt to use the file.
