How to Activate a Satellite Receiver Dish Network for Additional Rooms thumbnail
You can view TV content in more than one room with Dish Network.

The are multiple models of Dish Network receivers. Some can't be activated to send television content to an additional room in your house, but the "Duo" receiver models can. "Duo" receivers also have the ability to set the most-used TV as the primary TV and the least-used TV as the secondary. This is helpful because it allows you to record a program on the secondary TV and watch a different program on the primary TV at the same time.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn on your Dish Network DVR and your TV. These both have to be powered on to continue.

    • 2

Change your viewing mode to "Dual Mode." This mode allows you to view TV content in an additional room through one satellite receiver. To change the mode, press the "Mode" button on the front of the satellite receiver.

    • 3

Decide whether you want to enable "Record Plus" on your DVR. "Record Plus" allows you to record one show on one of the two locations and watch a completely different program on the other location. If you do not enable "Record Plus," the DVR will record a program and display the program on both television locations.

    • 4

Determine in which location you will watch your TV least. This is location where you will want to enable "Record Plus."

    • 5

Enable "Record Plus" if that is how you want to configure your Dish Network receiver. Press the "Menu" button in the top-left corner of the remote control. Select "Preferences" and then "Record Plus." Choose "TV1" or "TV2" as your "Record Plus" location. "TV1" is the TV that your satellite receiver is connected to, while "TV2" is the additional TV. Again, choose the TV you watch the least. Your satellite receiver is now activated for multiple TVs.

Tips & Warnings

  • Try not to change back and forth between "TV1" and "TV2" when enabling "Record Plus." This could result in a loss of data.
