How to Change File Permissions Files & Folders in Vista
If you have Windows Vista and want to edit file or folder permissions, it takes little time to do so. It is useful to change permissions of a file or folder so you can control who has access. For example, if you allow others to use your computer, you can set permissions for a folder to make it so that only you, the administrator, can view a folder.

Click the Start button and select "All Programs" when the menu opens.

Open the "Accessories" folder and then click "Windows Explorer."

Navigate the folders until you find the folder or file that you want to change permissions for.

Right-click on the folder or file you want to change and select "Properties" from the menu that opens. You can view the name, size, and security settings for the file or folder here.

Click the "Security" tab and then click the "Edit" button to change permissions.

Select the user group to edit permissions for. For example, you can edit permissions for a single user or for the entire system.

Scroll through the permission settings and check the box to add or deny certain permissions. Once you are finished making changes to permissions, click "OK" to finish.
