How to Troubleshoot an Iogear KVM Switch
If you need to work with several different computers, desk space can quickly become an issue. It can be difficult to find space for multiple monitors, keyboards and mice, no matter how big your work area. One solution to the problem of limited desk space is a KVM switch like the kind made by Iogear. These switches allow multiple computers to share a single keyboard, mouse and monitor, allowing computer techs and others to work with several computers from one convenient location. While these KVM switches will generally work quite well, it is still important to know what to do when something goes wrong.

1
Remove the power cord from the Iogear KVM switch and leave it unplugged for several minutes. Then replace the power cord and power the switch back on. If there has been a power surge or other interruption in the power supply, the Iogear KVM may have lost communication with the devices to which it was attached.

2
Connect your external monitor directly to one of the computers if you do not see any video through the KVM switch. This will ensure that the monitor is working properly. If the monitor works when connected directly to the computer, be sure to check the connection between the monitor and the KVM. Also ensure that the cable is firmly seated, and the thumbscrews are secure.

Check the function of the mouse and keyboard by connecting them directly to a computer. If the keyboard and mouse work when connected to the computer but not the KVM switch, make sure the cables are firmly seated. If you are using a PS2 to USB connector to connect a PS2 mouse and keyboard to a USB KVM switch, you may experience problems. Try replacing the old style PS2 equipment with a new USB keyboard and mouse.
