How to Replace Your Chair Wheels
The wheels on your chair attach to a caster and stem. You will need to replace the entire caster assembly to replace the chair wheels. The stem on the caster assembly secures to the chair with a small retaining ring inside the leg cavity. It is often better to replace all four casters at the same time so that you will have casters that look the same on the chair. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Place the chair on its back so that the chair wheels are off the floor and facing you.
-
2
Slide the blade of a large flathead screwdriver between the base of the wheel caster and the base of the leg. Twist the handle to pry the wheel caster loose from the chair leg.
-
-
3
Grab the wheel caster and pull the caster out of the leg base. You may need to hold onto the base of the chair with your free hand to pull the caster.
-
4
Take one of the casters to an office furniture supply store or a home improvement center. You want to get a replacement set that has the same length and diameter caster stem as your old caster.
-
5
Slide the new caster wheel stem into the hole in the chair leg base. Some casters will slide in without difficulty. If necessary, smack the bottom of the caster wheel with the palm of your hand to engage the stem all the way into the hole.
-
6
Place the chair back upright on its wheels. Sit in the chair to seat the caster stems into their holes.
