How to Use Jacuzzi Chemicals

How to Use Jacuzzi Chemicals thumbnail
Using chemicals in a Jacuzzi keeps water sanitary.

Jacuzzi tubs have pulsating jets that offer relief to knotted muscles and kinks in your back. Soaking in a Jacuzzi can be the most relaxing part of your day, but you will not relax if the water in your Jacuzzi looks cloudy. Chemicals are an important part of keeping the water sanitary and sparkling. Empty and clean your Jacuzzi at least every 90 days and test the water with spa test strips weekly. Add chemicals to the Jacuzzi according to what the test strip indicates is needed. Buy chemicals and test strips at your Jacuzzi hot tub retailer or local pool store. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Test the water in your Jacuzzi with a spa test strip. The test strip has colored blocks that change color. Compare the test strip to the colored blocks on the test strip container and the reading indicates the chlorine, pH and alkalinity levels in the Jacuzzi.

    • 2

Add a sanitizer such as bleach or bromine to chlorinate the Jacuzzi. Add bromine in tablet or granule form or bleach in liquid form according to the manufacturer's instructions.

    • 3

Add a pH increaser if your test strip shows below a 7.2 for the pH level on the test strip. Add a pH decreaser if the test strip shows above 7.6. A low pH level corrodes the jets and irritates your skin. A high pH level produces calcium deposits, forming stains on the Jacuzzi tub.

    • 4

Add a scale reducer if the calcium registers high on the test strip. If you live in an area with hard water, you may have high calcium.

    • 5

Turn the pump on to allow the chemicals to dispense through the Jacuzzi.

    • 6

Retest the Jacuzzi water after two to three minutes. Add more chemicals if the test strip indicates you need to do so.

Tips & Warnings

  • Retest your Jacuzzi tub weekly to maintain a safe water environment.

  • Store chemicals and test strips in a cool, dry space.
