Instructions

    • 1

Start at the top. Long dark curly hair is nearly mandatory for a Gypsy woman. Don a wig, or curl your own dark hair. Gypsies have darker skins, so apply a dark foundation to your face and neck. Use lots of dark eye shadow and mascara. False eyelashes are an added plus.

    • 2

Tie a brightly colored scarf as a headband, and let one end trail down the side of your face. Fasten a flower where the knot of the head band is on the side. Add a gold or jeweled necklace as a band across your forehead and clipped into your hair on each side.

    • 3

Pick out jewelry, lots of jewelry. Hoop earrings are a must as are jangle bracelets. Load up on each arm. Choose a variety of beaded necklaces. Wrap some around your neck two or three times, and leave others long. Intersperse the beads with chains in gold and silver.

    • 4

Layer a white long puffy-sleeved blouse under a form-fitted vest or corset. An off-the-shoulder blouse is perfect. A low-cut blouse even better. Wear a shawl with fringe if the weather is cold.

    • 5

Choose a long full skirt of different fabrics and colors. Or wear more than one skirt, and pin up the outer skirts to reveal the different colored underskirts. Wrap a big wide belt around your waist.

    • 6

Carry a crystal ball. Cut a small hole in a plain white hard plastic ball 4 to 6 inches in diameter. Stuff the ball with a string of battery operated tiny white holiday lights on a white string. Leave the on-off switch outside the ball.

Tips & Warnings

  • Long fingernails painted blood red are a nice touch, since they'll show up against your crystal ball.

  • Wear ballet slippers or flats. Gypsies often go barefooted, but that's not possible because most areas of the country are too cold during late October.

  • Carry a deck of Taro cards, if you don't want to carry the crystal ball.

  • If your hair is blond and long, be careful about using rinses or hair sprays to darken it. They are difficult to remove.
