How Do I Boot My Mac Pro From a CD? thumbnail
Booting from your startup CD can help diagnose your Mac Pro.

The Mac Pro is a powerful Apple desktop computer. Because of its powerful processor, it is often used for professional video editing and graphic design. However, you may be experiencing problems with your Mac Pro and want to boot your machine from the start-up CD that came with your Mac Pro. Booting from a CD allows you to diagnose hard drive problems or even reformat and restore your hard drive back to its original state.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn on your Mac Pro. There is a power button on the front of the machine. Press that button until an Apple logo appears on your monitor.

    • 2

Insert your Apple start-up CD into the optical drive of your Mac Pro. The optical drive is simply a combination CD and DVD-ROM drive.

    • 3

Restart your Mac Pro. Click the Apple logo in the top-left corner of the screen and and select "Restart," which is located near the bottom of the list of options.

    • 4

Wait for your computer to fully shut down and the monitor screen to go blank. Immediately when the computer has shut down, hold down the "C" key on your keyboard.

    • 5

Keep holding the "C" key until the Apple logo appears. The computer will now treat your CD as the start-up device, instead of the computer's hard drive.
