How to Program a GE Digital Telephone

GE digital landline telephones have several different options and functions that users can program according to their needs. Among the programmable functions are setting the display language, choosing a ringtone for the phone and registering handsets to work with the phone base. If a handset is not registered to work with the phone base, you will not be able to use the handset.

Instructions

  1. Language

    • 1

      Push the soft key button under the word "Menu" to bring up the phone's main menu. The soft keys are the blank buttons located under the LCD screen on the phone base. The soft keys operate the functions written on the screen above them.

      Highlight "Language" on the LCD screen by pressing the "CID" up or down arrow buttons on the phone base. Press the "OK" soft key.

      Press "1" on the handset number pad to select English, "2" for French and "3" for Spanish.

      Save the language setting by pressing the "OK" soft key.

    Ringtone

      Open the main menu and select "Ringer Tone."

      Select a ringer by pressing buttons 1-6 on the telephone handset. When you press any of the buttons, the handset will ring so you can hear what that ringtone sounds like.

      Press the "OK" soft key to save the ringer selection.

    Handset Registration

      Open the main menu on the phone handset and select "Registration." "Handset Needs Registration" will appear on the handset LCD screen. Make sure the handset is near the phone base during registration.

      Press the soft key under "OK" twice. The screen will read "Hold, Base Page Wait for Beep."

      Hold the "Page/Int" button on the phone base until a confirmation beep is played and the words "Confirm Registration" appear on the handset LCD screen.

      Confirm the handset registration by pressing the "OK" soft key. You are next prompted to name the phone. If you do not want to name the handset, press the "Exit" soft key.

      Name the handset by pressing the "OK" soft key, entering the name with the number keypad on the phone and pressing the "OK" soft key a second time. A tone will play confirming the name is saved.
