How to Dismantle a Glock
Dismantling a Glock aides you in cleaning the slide, barrel, recoil spring assembly and receiver thoroughly. No special tools are needed to dismantle a Glock before cleaning it, and it's not a complicated process if you do all of the steps in the proper order.
Instructions

1
Pull the slide back and lock it into that position by depressing the slide lock lever, located on the left side of the frame directly below the slide. It can be depressed easily by the thumb of the shooting hand.
-
2
Remove the magazine by depressing the magazine release button, located on the left side of the frame, directly to the rear of the trigger guard, and pulling the magazine in a downward motion.
-
-
3
Verify that there is no bullet in the chamber by turning the gun so that the barrel is pointed away from you, in a safe direction, and tilting the barrel upwards so that the chamber is visible at the top of the gun frame. Inspect the opening that is created by positioning the slide back and removing the magazine.
-
4
Point the gun in a safe direction and dry fire the gun by squeezing the trigger.
-
5
Grasp the pistol in your hand, so that your four fingers rest over the slide and your thumb rests on the rear side of the receiver.
-
6
Draw back the slide approximately 1/16-inch using your fingers.
-
7
Pull the slide locks downward--located on each side of the frame above the trigger guard--with the thumb and index finger of your free hand, and while holding the slide lock tabs down, push the slide forward and separate it from the receiver.
-
8
Push the recoil spring assembly--located in the upper open portion of the frame--slightly forward with your thumb and raise it from the slide to remove it. There is only one spring in the Glock.
-
9
Grasp the barrel at the barrel locking lugs, and lift it from the slide by pushing it slightly forward and up.

Magazine should be released prior to locking slide back, to prevent chambering a second roundÂ… Many accidental discharges have resulted from performing these steps in the improper orderÂ… The slide should be racked back a few times with the magazine out prior to pulling the trigger.
