With an integrated modem to allow you to connect to your DSL broadband Internet, the 2Wire 2701 Modem functions as a router and LAN hub, allowing you to connect several computers and peripheral devices together. It also has a built-in firewall for security and to prevent local area network intrusions. If you are having problems accessing your network or need to change your IP address to help others on your network connect to you, you will find that refreshing the IP address assigned to you by 2Wire 2701 gateway is a simple process.

Instructions

  1. Getting Started

    • 1
      Use the "Start" menu.
      Use the "Start" menu.

Click "Start," "Run" on your Windows PC. The "Start" button is at the bottom left of your screen.

    • 2

Type "cmd" in the textbox, then click "OK." The DOS prompt or Command window should open.

    • 3

Type "ipconfig /release." This command will reset your network configurations to 0.0.0.0.

    • 4

Type "ipconfig." This is an optional step that allows you to see that your network connection has indeed been reset. You will notice that your IP address and subnet mask has reverted back to 0.0.0.0. Your default gateway should be blank.

    • 5

Type "ipconfig /renew." This command requests a new IP address from your DHCP server. In this case, it is the 2Wire 2701 gateway that acts as the DHCP server. If you do step 4 again, you will see that your computer has been assigned a new IP address

Note that if your intention is to refresh the IP address of the 2Wire 2701 modem itself, you normally won't have to do that because your ISP provider assigns the IP address automatically. Your 2Wire 2701 is assigned this every time you turn on the device. The IP address you get depends upon your subscription. If it is for static IP, you get the same address every time. If your subscription is for a dynamic IP address, you get a different address every time you restart the device. So if you want to get a new IP, you simply turn off 2Wire 2701, then turn it on again.

Tips & Warnings

  • When modifying the configuration of your computers and the 2Wire 2701 gateway, make sure that all the devices are connected properly. You can do this by checking that all the connections are secure. Check that all LED indicators are properly lit.

  • You can use the Ping command from your computer to the 2Wire 2701 gateway. If you get a successful ping, it means your device is properly connected.
