How Do I Export Pictures From a Mac to an HP Printer SD Card? thumbnail
You can transfer images from your Mac to an SD card.

You can use your Apple Macintosh computer to export photographs to virtually any type of image product, whether it is Mac-compatible or not. Because Macs are open to other operating systems, the process is not difficult. You do not even need special software to do it; all you need is your photo manipulation software and Macintosh OS X.

Instructions

    • 1

Open your photo editing software and then open the images you want to transfer to the Secure Digital or SD card. Make sure the images are in a format the Hewlett-Packard printer can read and print.

    • 2

Save all the images in JPEG format to fit more images on the card. Go to the "File" menu and select "Save As" in most photo editing software. When the popup appears, choose JPEG from the list of formats. Choose the TIFF format for higher-quality images. Both of these formats work in both Mac and Windows-based computers. Save all of these images in a new folder.

    • 3

Hook up your SD card reader by plugging its USB cable into the USB port on your Mac. (Some card readers may require you to insert the SD card before you plug in the reader; higher-quality readers do not require this.) The disc image of the SD card will appear on the desktop of the Mac as it is read.

    • 4

Double-click the SD card icon on your desktop to open a new Finder window. It will appear on the desktop and should contain an open folder. Even if the SD card is formatted to Windows rather than the Mac, the procedure is the same. You are not copying programs or anything that is specific to the Mac, but rather images already saved in universal formats that work in either system.

    • 5

Open the folder where you saved your reformatted images. Select all of the images by holding down the command key---the key with the apple on it to either side of the space bar---while pressing the "A" key on your keyboard.

    • 6

Click, hold and drag the files to the SD card's open folder.

    • 7

Once the files are copied, drag the SD card's icon to the Trash to eject the icon, then pop the SD card out of the reader. Take the SD card to the Hewlett-Packard. Insert the SD card in the correct slot printer and print the images.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make sure the SD card write-protect switch is in the "write" position, typically up toward the gold contacts. Otherwise, you will not be able to copy anything to the card.
