How to Create a PDF Form That Can Be Saved

The portable document format, often simply called a "PDF," is a common file format used to share documents easily between users. By intention, the PDF is difficult to edit once it is created, so that publishers can be certain that the document's recipients receive fair and accurate copies of the document. Some PDFs, however, contain forms that can be completed by the recipient which can then be sent back to the publisher or some other person. To create a PDF form that can be saved after editing, you must acquire PDF publishing software.

1. Choose a PDF publishing software. For your convenience, links to examples are provided below under "Resources." The most common software is produced by Adobe, which is the same company that created the PDF originally.

2. Download and install your chosen PDF software. Most software can be downloaded from the software's publisher, though some purchasing fee may be required. After you have downloaded the software, double-click on the file to begin the installation.

3. Launch your PDF software and use the software to create a "fillable" PDF form.
