How to Find Stocks Using CUSIP Number
The Committee on Uniform Securities Identification Procedures system identifies most securities in U.S. and Canadian companies, according to the Securities and Exchange Commission. Owned by the American Bank Association and operated by Standard's & Poor's, a CUSIP identification string is assigned to many stocks. Several methods for finding stocks using the CUSIP number exist.

Go to Fidelity's "Find Symbol" tool at Fidelity.com (see "References" for a link). Select "Stock" from the "Search for" drop-down menu. Select "CUSIP" from the "By" drop-down menu.

Enter the CUSIP string into the "Search Value" box and click "Search."

Review the search results. The tool will provide the name of the stock, the CUSIP number and the stock symbol. You can also use the tool to find the CUSIP number for stocks you have a name or symbol for.
Sallie Mae

Go to Sallie Mae's "CUSIP Search" tool by going to SallieMae.com (see "References" for a link). Click "Search for a CUSIP by number."

Enter the CUSIP number in the "Enter CUSIP Number" box on the "CUSIP Search" page.

Click "Submit." Sallie Mae's search tool will not allow you to hit "Enter" on your keyboard. Make sure you click "Submit." Review the search results.
