How to Remove the Boot.Mebroot Virus
Boot.Mebroot is a malicious virus that secretly installs on your computer. It is installed by the Trojan.Mebroot and interferes with your Master Boot Record. Write down or print these instructions because you will have to restart your computer.

Insert your Windows installation disc into the CD/DVD-ROM drive on your computer. Restart your computer. When prompted, press any key to start Windows from the installation CD.

Press "R" to start the Recovery Console when the "Welcome to Setup" screen appears. Select the installation that you want to access from the Recovery Console. When prompted, type your administrator password and press "Enter."

Type "fixmbr" (Without quotes) and press "Enter." Follow the guided prompts to restore the master boot record. When the process completes, type "Exit" (Without quotes) and press "Enter." Your computer restarts automatically.

Disable System Restore. To do so, click the Windows "Start" menu and right-click "My Computer." Scroll down the pop-up menu and click "Properties" to launch the System Properties dialog box. Click the "System Restore" tab and click the "Turn off System Restore" check-box. Click "OK" to save the changes.

Launch your Antivirus program and click the "Update" button to install the latest virus and spyware definitions. After updating your program, run a full system scan and delete all the malicious programs the Antivirus detects. Download and install a free Antivirus program such as AVG or Avast (see both programs in the "Resources" section). Launch the Antivirus program you chose to install and click the "Update" button to install the latest virus and spyware definitions. Re-enable System Restore from the System Properties dialog box and restart your computer.
