Makeup transfers to the couch before you can think about it.

Relaxing on the couch offers a comforting way to wind down at the end of the day. But natural body oils, perfume and makeup can rub off your skin and transfer to your upholstery. Makeup that provides you with long-lasting coverage may improve your appearance but it becomes a source of stress smudged on your couch. When treating a makeup stain you must address both the oil and the color, using supplies that absorb the oil and pull up any color stain.

Step 1

Scrape the makeup off the upholstery with the dull side of a table knife. Wipe the knife on a paper towel after each swipe and continue until you remove as much of the makeup as you can.

Step 6

Blot the remaining makeup stain on the couch. Rinse the cloth as the stain lifts. Apply more detergent solution and continue to dab the spot until the makeup stain is gone.

Step 7

Rinse the upholstery with a damp cloth. Dry the upholstery by pressing a dry cloth onto it. Allow the couch to air dry the rest of the way.
