How Do I Watch Television on My High Speed Internet Computer?
Although certain video cards have long allowed users to connect their computers directly to cable television, these cards are becoming increasingly obsolete as television itself migrates to the Internet. High-speed connections allow users to watch certain programs from their computer, though this is not true of all shows. As of 2010, only a small fraction of all television programs have been put onto the Internet. Those that are can be freely and easily accessed, often with reduced advertising. The trick to getting streaming television is to find a site that hosts the show. There are a number of likely candidates. Once you find the right site, it's as simple as pressing the play button.

1
Go to the website for the television show and see if it streams directly to the Internet. If you can't find a website for your show, look instead at the network website. For example, the popular sitcom "The Office," is available through the NBC website. Many larger networks host a streaming service. Usually, this is entirely free and does not require registration.

2
Go to a search engine and type in Watch TV Online. A number of websites will appear which offer free, legal viewing of popular shows - usually supported by minimal advertising. Visit a few of these sites and search them for the show you want to watch.

3
Go to netflix.com and search for your show. Netflix streams a large number of television shows in high quality that are not available on other streaming websites. That being said, you must register and pay a monthly fee to have access to Netflix services.

4
Go to a search engine. Type the name of your show as well as the word 'streaming.' For instance, if you are looking for The Wonder Years, type in "The Wonder Years streaming" - minus the quotation marks. A large number of sites might appear, some of which may be illegally streaming your show in low quality. Perform this function as a last resort and at your own risk.

5
Once you find a site that hosts your show, simply click play. On slower computers (especially when watching high quality media), you may want to pause your show for a few minutes to give it time to buffer. You can watch as your show buffers in the progress bar at the bottom of the screen. Although you don't need the stream to buffer entirely, giving it a few inches of progress can help considerably on computers that stall in the middle of shows.
