Create an Application for a Data Entry Job

Creating an application can be a surprisingly tricky task. A position in data entry requires a number of skills, some of which are common, but the job also calls for a candidate who strives for long-term success. The application should demand a clear sense of the qualities and skills you want in an applicant and be specific yet flexible in tone. You should always start with a preconception of what an ideal candidate would have (experience, minimum education), but remain open-minded about any applications you receive.

Instructions

    • 1

Request the standard information on the top half of the first sheet. This should include address, name, social security number and date of birth.

    • 2

Request qualifications for a data entry job on the bottom half of the first form. Qualifications should include how many words per minute an applicant can type, experience with self-management, experience with technology, and training.

    • 3

Ask for educational history at the top of the second form. Typically, the education section is a grid, with spaces for high school, college and other education. The grid should have spaces for years attended, degrees attained, major or other specializations, address and phone number.

    • 4

Place a grid for previous employment in the middle of the second form. Request previous supervisors, years employed and salary.

    • 5

Ask a few questions, in order to get a fuller picture of the applicant, on the bottom half of the second form. These questions might include, "Why do you think you would be a good fit at our business?" or "How would you handle the responsibilities of a data entry position?"

    • 6

Add a paragraph requesting a legal release for using any information given in the application at the end. Specify that you might use this information for a credit check or any other background search. Because you will be dealing with private information, you should make certain that you have legal permission to search an applicant's background.

    • 7

Print the applications and make them available at the front desk. In order to get the largest pool of applicants, you should advertise the position on state and city job sites, in newspapers, or in other venues.
