You're starting to use your Palm handheld, and you've discovered there is a world of software out there for it. Your next step is to download and install some of it. This eHow assumes that you have already installed the Palm desktop and HotSync Manager for the Macintosh and have successfully performed a HotSync operation.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Locate the .PRC (Pilot Resource) file on your hard drive. This is the application you want to install. If you don't have any applications, try downloading a shareware one from the Palm Computing Web site.

  2. Step 2

Launch HotSync Manger by choosing HotSync Manager from the Instant Palm Desktop menu on the title bar or by locating the Palm folder on your Macintosh and double-clicking the HotSync Manager program icon.

  3. Step 3

Choose Install from the HotSync pull-down menu.

  4. Step 4

Drag and drop the .PRC file to the Application list in the Install Handheld Files box.

  5. Step 5

HotSync your Palm handheld to your Palm desktop. The new application will be installed for you.

Tips & Warnings
  • You may need to use Stuffit Expander to expand compressed files you find on the Internet. You can get this utility from the Aladdin Systems Web site.
  • If you don't like using drag and drop, you can also search for applications to install by clicking the Add To List icon in the Install Applications box.
  • You can install multiple programs at once ' just realize that the more programs you install, the slower your next HotSync will be.
  • If you install too many third-party programs, you run a greater risk of corrupting something on your Palm handheld. Have fun exploring, but be prepared to delete programs you no longer use.
