How to Place Mezuzah
According to the Torah, there must be a mezuzah on the door post of every door in a Jewish home. The mezuzah is a scroll of paper with the words from Deuteronomy 6:4-9 and Deuteronomy 11:13-21, written on it in Hebrew. You then place this paper into a protective box and place it on the door post. The mezuzah is small--only a few inches long--and it serves as a reminder of G~d every time you walk past it.

1
Purchase enough mezuzos for almost every door in your home. You need a mezuzah for all of the major rooms and large closets, including bedrooms, living rooms and basements. However, you do not need a mezuzah for bathroom, small closets or any areas of the home where people will dress immodestly, such as a swimming pool.

2
Locate the proper area on each door frame. The mezuzah should go on the bottom portion of the top third of the door. You do not need to accurately measure this--you can simply estimate with your eyes. For most adults, this will be about eye level. You must also be sure that you place it on the inside of the frame, where it will not interfere with opening and closing the door. In cases where there is no such place--such as in a door frame where the door swings both ways--you can place it on the outside.

3
Place the double-sided tape onto the mezuzah container. After affixing, peel the backing off to prepare the mezuzah for placement.

4
Say the bracha as you prepare to place the mezuzah. If you follow the Sefardic tradition, you'd say, "Baruch atah adonai eloheinu melech ha-olam asher kideshanu b'-mitzvotav ve-tzivanu likboah mezuzah."
If you follow the Ashkenazi tradition, you'd say, "Boruch ato adonoi eloheinu melech ho-olam asher kideshanu b'-mitzvosov ve-tzivonu likboah mezuzah."
This translates to, "Blessed are You, G~d, our G~d, King of the universe, Who has sanctified us with His mitzvot, and commanded us to affix the mezuzah."
-
5
Place the mezuzah on the door. The Ashkenazic tradition is to tip the mezuzah at a 45-degree angle into the door; the Sefardic tradition is to place the mezuzah vertically.
-
6
Repeat for all the doors of the house.
